A City Council committee has agreed to a contract with North Coast Wind & Power to find ways to bring wind power to the city.
Councilman Glenn Chapman said the contract would pay the company for work on behalf of the city for wind turbine projects.

Wind energy has a promising future in South Dakota and the state's Public Utilities Commission is right not to overregulate it. A new wind farm is in the works for the central border region of South Dakota and North Dakota. Because the Tatanka wind farm straddles the borders of the two states, it fell into a gray area in terms of regulation by the PUC, but last week the commission decided it didn't have jurisdiction over the project because the project production actually within South Dakota is estimated to be in the neighborhood of 90 megawatts.
